Ever wanted to know about the spooky stories surrounding Ottawa's historic districts? While these haunted walks are held throughout the year, visitors who travel to Ontario during Halloween will get an extra special treat when they take this tour as the frightful holiday approaches. The whole family can go on these walks, led by cloak-wearing, lantern-carrying guides, taking visitors to the Carleton County Jail, which held the murderer Patrick Whelan until he was hanged for his crimes in 1869. People say he still haunts the prison—now the HI Ottawa Jail Hostel—to this day. Check out the Halloween season “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and “Canada’s Scariest Stories” tours.
Diefenbunker Museum | Oct 16 – Nov 2, 2013 (select days)
The Haunted Walk of Ottawa and The Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum are partnering together again this Halloween to present, “Incident at the Bunker: A Zombie Adventure!” Guests will be led on an interactive adventure with the undead, deep inside the underground labyrinth. What mysterious events took place around the time the bunker was decommissioned? Who or what still lingers in the bunker today? This 75-minute Halloween experience is a perfect combination of storytelling, interactive challenges, unexpected surprises, and of course…zombies, a whole lot of zombies. Those who make it out alive will have quite the tale to tell!
