Families who travel to Ontario between November 15 and 18 should stop at the Ottawa Storytellers Festival. This year's event is set to be the best yet, offering nothing but good old-fashioned storytellers as they use their voice to express the art of spoken word to those in attendance.
Participants cannot even rely on a book or flashcards to get them through their stories, which encourage artistic trains of thought and improvisation based on audience feedback. While some performances are deemed adult-only, many are ideal for families with small children.
During Kelly Russell's storytelling session on November 16, visitors will be entertained not only with her lovely anecdotes, but also her energetic violin playing, which she mastered while travelling with Newfoundland fiddlers.
Travellers can also take a workshop in storytelling if they want to become masters of the artform themselves, or if they simply want to brush up on their bedtime reading skills so their kids can have a peaceful sleep.
