Hungry Hungry Hippos, Scrabble and Boggle are only a few of the games Ottawa's David Narbaitz plans to store on the shelves of his new café, Monopolatte, which will be the first board game café in the Canadian capital. In an interview with Ottawa Life Magazine, Narbaitz explained why he decided to turn his obsession into a lucrative business venture.
"We knew that other places in Ottawa and around the world provide space for board gaming, like tables in a back room somewhere," he told the news source. "But those spaces aren't always the most inviting, so we wanted to create a space that was inviting to everybody."
Today, Narbaitz has more than 500 board games and hopes that his new café will be a middle ground between some of Ottawa's noisier bars and quiet coffee shops, providing a place where people can have enjoyable conversations without having to break the ice with talk about the weather.
For many singles who travel to Canada, meeting new people might be somewhat difficult, but with a game like Sorry! or Hungry Hungry Hippos in front of them, they can easily spark up a conversation about their favourite games growing up.
