The Ottawa International Writers Festival returns to Ottawa April 25-30 this year. With nearly 50 authors and a plethora of events to choose from (including some before the festival launch), attendees are sure to find an event of interest.
On April 10, the festival offers an event well worth seeing. One on One with Alexander McCall Smith will introduce the audience to the author of "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series", "44 Scotland Street" and "The Sunday Philosophy Club Series."
By April 25, the floodgates open. Though there are multiple events daily from April 25 to 30, they are spaced out across the afternoon and evening and many take place in the same building.
Tickets and passes are available online or at local bookstores. There are also two free events. On April 27, the Plan 99 Fiction Cabaret with Tamas Dobozy and Elisabeth de Marifaffi comes to the Manx Pub at 370 Elgin St. The following night, the Plan 99 Poetry Cabaret with David Seymour, Stephanie Bolster and Rona Shaffan follows at the same location.
