Along the scenic Rideau Canal, travellers may choose to take a leisurely stroll or hop on a bike to admire the charming views of the city. However, thrill-seekers who are visiting Ottawa with little ones can explore the canal in a whole new way through Pirate Adventures.
Docked at Mooney's Bay, a giant ship called The Grey Ghost invites large groups of people to head out on the water and play a role in a swashbuckling story line. Guests climb aboard after dressing up as pirates themselves and hear the tall tales of Pirate Pete and how he must be brought to justice for his dirty deeds. Children are encouraged to sing, dance, and aim water guns at bad pirates that sneak up on the ship during the excursion.
Tours can be presented in both French and English to suit the needs of the visitors. Every adventure is wheelchair accessible and welcomes aspiring pirates of all ages to experience this interactive attraction. As long as weather permits, the new 2012 season for Pirate Adventures will begin May 26 and continue through the summer.
Even those without children can experience the mythical allure of a pirate-themed excursion along the Rideau Canal. The company can also charter special events geared toward an older crowd who wish to take part in their own unforgettable boat ride down Ottawa's iconic waterway. Some groups have even been known to host corporate events or wedding on the ship as well.
Although sailing aboard a pirate ship can be a thrill, some tourists may wish to take a calmer route and try a rental boat or a cruise on the Rideau. Kayaks, sailing vessels and even houseboats can be reserved for use on the waterway and the nearby Rideau Lakes. Organisations such as Frontenac Outfitters will assist new boaters in the use of the equipment and provide lessons on how to navigate their chosen watercraft. Visitors taking tours of Ottawa can do so in a different way by reserving a houseboat that sleeps up to 8 guests and smoothly floats down the breathtaking waterways of Ontario.
However travellers choose to experience Ottawa in a nautical way will be a great addition to an exciting travel itinerary.
