Since 1994, the Ottawa Chamber Music Society has hosted the Ottawa Chamberfest in the city, which has grown to be one of the largest of its kind in the world. From July 26 to August 9, travellers can head to Canada's capital to indulge in some spectacular shows that highlight the aptitude of different chamber music experts in venues throughout the area.
Traditionally, chamber music can trace its roots to the Middle Ages, where compositions designed for small groups of four or five musicians were created so they could be played inside of buildings and palaces. Nowadays, many chamber bands will still play classical pieces, but others choose to incorporate more modern pieces into their performances with everything from pop music to video game jingles.
Travellers who attend the Chamberfest will have the opportunity to hear music played by a variety of groups in venues such as Saint Brigid's Centre for the Arts, Rideau Hall and the Dominion-Chalmers United Church. Some of the performances will include shows by the Arsis Handbell Ensemble, the Cecilia Strong Quartet with Georgy Tchaidze and The National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
Many professionals involved with the festival say they want young participants to gain more exposure for their talents through this event, reports The Globe and Mail. They hope their expertise will help decide who has potential to continue onto successful careers in the business.
"Justin Bieber’s mum puts stuff out there [on YouTube] and look what happens," said Roman Borys, a Gryphon Trio cellist and artistic director of the Ottawa ChamberFest, as quoted by the news source. "But if you are not working with someone who knows the difference between the mediocre and the good, you are skipping the mechanism that regulates what is professional."
Travellers can purchase their tickets online in advance to receive special discounts for parts of the event or the full VIP experience. This can be the perfect opportunity for visitors taking tours of Ottawa to hear a wide range of skilled performers that are seasoned veterans of the music scene or hoping to soon hit it big. Due to the central locale of many of the concerts, guests should have little problem finding top-notch accommodations while seeing all the other sites and attractions Canada's capital has to offer.
