Canada Agriculture and Food Museum
Experience the country in the heart of the city. Ottawa is the only world capital with a working farm at its heart, providing a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in its agricultural heritage. Meet Jules and Yanni, the resident alpacas; learn everything there is about beef cattle, chickens, dairy breeds, goats, sheep, and more; and watch the milking of the Museum’s dairy cows, which happens twice a day, using modern technology. The recently renovated learning centre displays exciting exhibits that rotate throughout the year, and no visit would be complete without seeing the beauty and power of their Clydesdale horses firsthand, as they take you on a wagon ride around the farm.
- In the spring, visitors can take in a wide variety of demonstrations from Butter Making and Tasting to Cooking with Maple Syrup.
- Come meet the Museum’s horses and learn about their differences, similarities and about the kind of work they can do on a farm.
- The milking of the Museum’s dairy cows takes place twice daily. Over the course of this demonstration, visitors will be impressed by the technologies used in modern dairying as they see the herdspeople milk the entire herd. A Museum guide will be on site to explain the process and to answer questions.
- The museum is open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
